Sporting secured a 2-0 victory over Palma on Sunday to lift the UEFA Futsal Champions League for the third time in their history. After previous triumphs in 2019 and 2020, Nuno Dias’s side became the first non-Spanish team to win the competition three times.
The Lions dominated the match from start to finish, and the scoreline would have been far more emphatic if not for an outstanding performance from Palma goalkeeper Cavalcanti, who repeatedly denied Sporting in the first half. However, it must be noted that Sporting’s own goalkeeper, Bernardo Paçó, also delivered a strong display despite being called into action less frequently.
Diogo Santos opened the scoring in the 4th minute but was later sent off near the end of the first half after receiving a second yellow card. An own goal from Alisson in the 36th minute—during a phase when Palma was playing with a flying goalkeeper—sealed the 2-0 final score.
This marks the third European crown for Sporting, cementing their status as one of the continent’s most successful futsal clubs.
