The pairings for the opening rounds of the PGA Championship, the season’s second men’s major, were released on Tuesday. The tournament will take place from May 14-17 at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
Four Japanese players will compete in the event. Hideki Matsuyama, making his 14th appearance, is grouped with U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun and Max Homa, both of the United States. First-time participant Kaito Kaneko will play alongside Brandt Snedeker, who claimed his first title in nearly eight years at the OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic last week, and Tyler Collet, both from the U.S.
Additionally, Ryo Hisatsune will play with Jared Jones and Michael Kim (both USA), while Kazuki Higa is paired with Ryan Fox (New Zealand) and Ryan Lenahan (USA) for the first two days.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler (USA) joins Matthew Fitzpatrick (England), a three-time winner this season, and Justin Rose (England), a one-time winner this season. Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), who claimed back-to-back Masters titles, is grouped with Jordan Spieth (USA), who is chasing a career Grand Slam, and two-time major winner Jon Rahm (Spain).
Other notable groups include Bryson DeChambeau (USA), Ludvig Åberg (Sweden), and Rickie Fowler (USA); Xander Schauffele (USA), Brooks Koepka (USA), and Tyrrell Hatton (England); and Cameron Young (USA), Keegan Bradley (USA), and Justin Thomas (USA).
