Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca is shifting his focus to the ATP 500 in Hamburg, Germany, following his early exit from the Masters 1000 in Rome last Saturday (May 9). The clay-court event, scheduled from May 17 to 23, serves as his final tune-up before the prestigious Roland Garros in Paris.
This marks Fonseca’s first appearance at the Hamburg tournament, where he will face a formidable field that reads like a “mini World Cup” of tennis. The draw features four top-10 players: Alexander Zverev (No. 3), Felix Auger-Aliassime (No. 5), Ben Shelton (No. 6), and Lorenzo Musetti (No. 9). Additionally, Denmark’s Holger Rune is set to make a highly anticipated return after recovering from a severe Achilles tendon injury.

**Upcoming Schedule for João Fonseca:**
– ATP 500 Hamburg (clay) – May 17 to May 23
– Roland Garros (clay) – May 24 to June 8
Fonseca will also make his debut as a seeded player at a Grand Slam, having secured a spot among the top 32 in the ATP rankings. At Roland Garros, he will avoid facing the highest-ranked players in the early rounds, giving him a clearer path toward an unprecedented title. This is not his first time leading a main draw this month—he entered the Rome Masters 1000 as a seed after receiving a first-round bye, but a loss to Serbian Hamad Medjedovic cut his run short.
