Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek has etched her name in the history books once again. The world No. 3 from Poland achieved the milestone at 24 years and 339 days old, making her the youngest woman to reach five quarterfinals at the WTA-1000 clay court event in Rome since American legend Serena Williams, who was 22 years and 226 days old in 2004, according to Opta Ace.

On Monday, Swiatek cruised into the quarterfinals of the Rome tournament with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory over four-time major champion Naomi Osaka, ranked 16th in the world. The match lasted just over an hour as the Polish star showcased her dominance on clay.

Osaka, who had shown strong form earlier in the tournament, struggled to find answers against Swiatek’s relentless baseline game and heavy topspin. Swiatek broke Osaka’s serve five times and saved all three break points she faced.

In the next round, Swiatek will face world No. 5 Jessica Pegula of the United States. Pegula, the fifth seed, advanced after a hard-fought win in her previous match. The two have met several times on tour, with Swiatek holding a favorable record.

Swiatek’s consistency in Rome has been remarkable. Since 2020, she has reached at least the quarterfinals in every edition of the tournament she has played, capturing the title in 2021 and 2022. Her ability to perform at a high level on clay continues to draw comparisons to the sport’s all-time greats.

The WTA-1000 Rome event features a strong field, and Swiatek will look to add another trophy to her collection. With her current form and experience, she remains a strong favorite to advance further in the tournament.
