Inter sends a message to Lazio in the Coppa final dress rehearsal

The ‘nerazzurri’ dominated, even with backups, after already securing the Scudetto

Inter had nothing left to play for in the league, having already wrapped up the Scudetto. Yet the ‘nerazzurri’ wanted to stake their claim during their visit to Lazio (0-3), their opponent in the Coppa final on May 12.

It didn’t matter that Cristian Chivu fielded several fringe players—Josep Martínez, Diouf, Sucic… Inter were already winning after just six minutes. Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram never rest. Yann Bisseck launched a long throw-in, the son of Lilian flicked it on, and ‘El Toro’ fired from point-blank range to extend his lead as the Serie A top scorer (Capocannoniere) with 17 goals.

Marcus Thuram (10′) and Nicolò Barella (31′, from a free kick) came close but missed. Petar Sucic, however, made no mistake in the 39th minute. The cousin of the Real Sociedad midfielder received the ball at the edge of the area after a one-two between Lautaro Martínez and Andy Diouf, and beat Edoardo Motta with a left-footed strike to the far post.

Chivu rested players with the Coppa final in mind. He substituted Barella and Thuram at halftime—then removed Lautaro and Alessandro Bastoni in the 63rd minute—bringing on Davide Frattesi and Ange Bonny. Still, Inter kept pushing: Motta made a fine save from a Bisseck rocket in the 50th minute.

There was also time for controversy. Alessio Romagnoli was sent off after a VAR review in the 59th minute for a nasty tackle on Diouf, who was everywhere.

Lazio had their chances. Carlos Augusto cleared a shot from Gustav Isaksen off the line in the 61st minute, and Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martínez made a brilliant save in a one-on-one with Isaksen in the 70th.

The final blow came in the 76th minute. Sucic won the ball, Bonny caused chaos with his back to goal, and the ball fell to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who finished beautifully: controlled with his right foot and slotted home with his left.

Lazio now knows exactly what Inter brings to the Coppa final.
